From en-plein-air drawing to the creation of monoprints in the beautiful printmaking studio of the Scuola. A day of work with Jemma Gunning, the award-winning guest artist of 2024 and member of the Royal Society of Printmakers, the organization that brings together the best printmakers in the United Kingdom.

The Workshop
Jemma will begin her workshop with drawing exercises out in the beautiful venetian city streets that will be used as visual references for mono-printing. She will teach you a range of techniques and processes to create a series of unique one-off prints. Mono-printing is a great way to experiment with mark making, it’s an immediate process where drawing and painting can be merged to form expressive imagery. The beauty of this tangible activity is speed and spontaneity, offering a sensation of freedom. Jemma finds this to be a useful method to implement at the beginning of a new project, as the process becomes a tool for contemplating etchings and lithographs.
Workshop plan
- Meet and great, outline of the day.
- 10.15- 12.30
Drawing in the city. Jemma will lead a series of drawing activities, practicing different mark making techniques. - 12.30 – 1.30
Lunch – A chance to chat and share stories. - 1.30 – 4.30
After lunch we will transition to the studio to create a series of trace and reductive monoprints that respond to your drawings. - 4.30 – 5pm
Clean up and reflection
Gather for a group reflection session.
Share your experiences and insights from the day’s activities.
