Burnished aquatint is an intaglio technique that speeds up the execution of a black style, imitating its aesthetic characteristics and the method of processing the image. Through the work of indirect engraving of the aquatint, a rough and dark surface is generated, from which, with the use of tools such as the scraper and the burnisher, we will obtain lights and shadows with highly effective tonal results.

We will discover how to make an aquatint using the BIG and abrasive paper; we will engrave matrices with the salt mordant for copper, ferric perchloride, and we will create our images by bringing out the lights from the black matrix with careful manual work .
We will conclude by printing the matrices on the intaglio press with sustainable inks that do not rely on the use of solvents, opening a discussion on the performance of various types of inks for techniques such as this.
Series of 8 lessons on printmaking techniques with a sustainable approach and materials, concluded by a day entirely dedicated to printing methods. An overview of the most recent and innovative research on engraving and printing processes without the use of chemical solvents and toxic materials and with water-washable inks.
This series of workshops, which can be attended individually, is aimed at engravers who wish to make their practice more sustainable and healthy, but also at those who want to approach intaglio engraving with particular attention to health and the environment.
